Railay Beach
Only reachable by longtail boat from Ao Nang (about 15 minutes), Railay is enclosed on all sides by sheer limestone karst cliffs and is widely considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. Railay West is the main swimming beach; the east side has a quieter lagoon trail leading to a hidden viewpoint. Arrive before 10am — by midday the day-tripper boats start arriving in volume.
Rock Climbing
Krabi is one of Southeast Asia's premier climbing destinations — the limestone karsts offer hundreds of routes from beginner slabs to expert overhangs. Several operators near Railay and Tonsai run half-day and full-day courses with gear. Tonsai Tower and Muay Thai Wall are legendary spots. Even absolute beginners can be on the rock within an hour of arrival.
Four Islands Tour
A longtail boat tour to the islands south of Krabi Town — Koh Mook (home of the Emerald Cave, entered by swimming through complete darkness at low tide to emerge in a hidden sunlit lagoon), Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan, and Koh Libong. Book through your guesthouse rather than the main tour operators for a smaller group and more flexibility at each stop.
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
1,237 steps climb to the summit of a limestone karst, where a large golden Buddha presides over sweeping 360-degree views across Krabi's mangroves, rivers, and jungle. The climb takes 30-45 minutes and is demanding in heat — go at sunrise when it's cool and the light is extraordinary. There are monkeys on the stairs; keep food and bags closed.
