Uffizi Gallery
One of the world's great art collections — Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera, Michelangelo's Doni Tondo, Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio. Book timed entry tickets well in advance; the queue without a booking can exceed 2 hours in high season.
The Accademia
Home to Michelangelo's David, this museum is a must-visit for art lovers. The building itself is a work of art.
The Duomo
Brunelleschi's dome is the defining feature of the Florentine skyline. Climbing to the top (book online) gives the best view in the city. The baptistery's gilded bronze doors (the Ghiberti 'Gates of Paradise') are directly across the piazza.
Florence at Night
The city's nighttime ambiance is magical, especially from the Ponte Vecchio. The illuminated Duomo and the historic center create a stunning visual experience.
Piazzale Michelangelo at Sunset
The standard viewpoint for the classic Florence panorama — best at golden hour. Crowded at sunset; go up 45 minutes early to get a spot at the railing. The nearby San Miniato al Monte church (uphill, almost no tourists) has an even better view with fewer people.
Chianti Wine Country
The rolling Tuscan hills south of Florence — vineyards, medieval hill towns (Greve in Chianti, Radda), cypress trees, and some of the best wine in Italy. A car is necessary to explore properly. Wine tastings at small estates (check websites or call ahead) are often free or very low cost.
